Chapter 2, The Elves in the Ice and Snow
After a brief standoff, Yulang suddenly turned and swam back to the shore
Gradually, the sound drew closer, and a wolf with green eyes appeared before Yu Lang, followed by several others that emerged from the night. As Yu Lang noticed the pack of wolves, they also became aware of his presence; the pack ceased their hunt for the antelope and began to encircle Cao Yu Lang.
The little squirrel disappeared again. After a while, it tossed something over, and seeing that Yulang did not react, it went somewhere to fetch another item to throw. Soon, five or six copper tubes, a piece of glass lens, a thumb-sized blue stone, a jade bracelet, and a copper prayer wheel were thrown beside Yulang, along with some unknown small objects. Watching the little squirrel persistently drag its treasures over, Yulang felt a bit embarrassed. After it tossed over a yellow jade box, Yulang picked up a copper tube and aimed it in the direction of the little white snake before throwing it. The night quickly passed, and Yulang consumed several small fish; each fish consumed guided the warm currents within and outside, impacting the congested internal organs. After several fish were ingested, the internal warmth surged, gradually resembling a fire roasting his meridians. Startled, Yulang leaped out of the water, climbed up the ice wall several dozen meters high, pressed against the ice surface, and utilized his energy to attract the external cold air to cool himself down; before long, he had imprinted a human-shaped deep pit in the ice. Once the internal heat finally dissipated, Yulang jumped out from a ball of ice; it was astonishing, what kind of strange fish was this, it felt like eating fire. Not far away, there is a lake. Following the small stream upstream, one can soon see the blue waters of the lake. Flocks of waterfowl circle above the islands in the lake, while herbivores such as Tibetan antelopes and wild donkeys wander among the meadows, which are separated by the shallow stream. Foxes and grass mice move among the bushes; the air is filled with the fresh scent of grass. Fluffy white clouds drift across the clean blue sky, and several eagles soar high among the clouds; it is truly a wonderful place for healing. The next day, after Cao Yulang finished treating his wounds, he was astonished to see the two animals fighting again on the island in the middle of the lake. This time, the situation had reversed; the little white snake was on the offensive while the little green squirrel was on the defensive. The red light in the snake's eyes was considerably weaker than the blue light in the squirrel's eyes. It seemed that there was something mysterious about that place; Yulang thought he would go take a look when he had the time
Upon picking up the reishi mushroom, a fragrant aroma wafted through the air, invigorating Yu Lang's spirit; it truly was a remarkable item. Observing the patterns on the reishi, it seemed to have aged somewhat. Unfortunately, he did not possess the skill to concoct elixirs; otherwise, he could have prepared some to heal his internal injuries. To consume it directly would be a waste of such a heavenly treasure. Yu Lang took the yellow jade box presented by the little squirrel and tossed the reishi inside.
The squirrel, upon seeing someone approach, climbed to the top of a small pine tree and watched Yu Lang with vigilance. The little white snake also sensed the presence of someone nearby and turned its gaze towards Yu Lang, two sharp red beams shooting from its eyes. Yu Lang was taken aback. These two red beams were much more intense than the blue light from the squirrel, indicating that these two animals were not ordinary.
He leaped in the mist for a while, then turned back in the icy valley, heading straight west, moving like a jade pendant. When night fell, he was forced to stop; without the sun to guide his direction, he dared not run around in the thick fog of the snow-capped mountains. He was not afraid of getting lost, as he was merely wandering aimlessly, as long as he headed west; what he feared was retracing his steps. If he lost his direction at night and turned east, it would be a great loss. He was not afraid of getting lost, as he was merely wandering aimlessly, as long as he headed west; what he feared was retracing his steps. If he lost his direction at night and turned east, it would be a great loss. If he were not careful and fell victim to that terrifying weapon a few more times, the current Yu Lang could not withstand it. Remembering those six massive explosions, the back of his head still felt cold; that flying monster was truly formidable, possessing such a terrifying magical artifact. Fortunately, he had burrowed down over ten meters deep, otherwise, he would have been done for.
Dressed in an antelope skin robe, Yu Lang left just like that
A flash of yellow light swept by, and the little squirrel was "gently" driven out of the island in the lake, while the white snake immediately took over the place
Cao Yulang observed everything nearby with vigilance; under the night sky, the snow-capped mountains were draped in a layer of golden glow illuminated by the full moon, while several night birds flitted among the nearby bushes; not far away, a group of antelopes gathered on the meadow to rest. Their presence indicated that there were no human activities in the vicinity
Here is the end of the river, and not far away is the Great Snow Mountain
However, he could not bear to drive the little white snake away so quickly, so he waved his hand at the little squirrel, signaling it not to pull anything anymore. He pointed a few times at the sky and then at the island in the middle of the lake, indicating that they would have to wait a little longer before they could drive the little white snake away
The antelopes on the meadow were also startled, and these timid herbivores fled into the night. Yulang casually threw a few stones, bringing down several antelopes, as he prepared to make himself some clothing
In the late night, a group of animals moving cautiously caught the attention of Yulang, who had just finished eating a fish and was enjoying a moonlit bath. They were a group of animals moving carefully, dividing into several parts like an army, surrounding the antelope on the meadow from three sides. Yulang slipped into the creek, the cold water flowing slowly over his body, leaving only his head above the water, with a pair of bright black eyes watching the direction from which the sound came.
After a month of recuperation, Yulang's emaciated body has been strengthened by the nourishing fish and antelope meat.
Without any hesitation, Yu Lang took the initiative to launch an attack. A stone whistled through the air towards the pack of wolves, causing the gathered wolves to howl and scatter. Cao Yu Lang did not intend to kill them all; apart from the largest one, which was shot through the head, the others only sustained minor injuries. Yu Lang emerged from the water, seized the fallen giant wolf, and swung it by its tail towards the pack. The wolves were stunned by the sudden appearance of this person and fled towards the snow-capped mountains without looking back
The little squirrel jumped around anxiously for a while, then settled down. When Yu Lang finished preparing the herbs and looked at it, he found it had fallen asleep in a strange position.
On an icy cliff, Yu Lang sat quietly, allowing the true energy within to circulate slowly, gradually clearing the blockages in his internal organs. Observing the flow of his internal breath, the fog in Yu Lang's heart was no less dense than the mist on the snow-capped mountains; what was wrong with him? Ever since he escaped from "there," everything had gone awry, even his cultivation had faltered. Neither his previous techniques nor the new ones he had learned were usable anymore; it must have been the strike from Jiu Tian Lang that left him in this state. After returning, he encountered a group of terrifying individuals, who were even more formidable than the so-called immortals from "there." Just meeting them had left him in this condition. What was happening in this world? Was it still the same world as before? How could there be such powerful people?
Yulang leaped down the snowy cliff, lightly tapping his feet on the hard ice surface as he darted towards the shimmering blue light. Upon reaching the glacier, Yulang realized that this was not a glacier at all, but rather a canyon surrounded by glaciers. A warm spring gushed forth from the ground, forming a small lake about 100 meters wide, with thick steam enveloping the area, making it impossible to discover this natural wonder until one was right in front of it
Until evening, the White Snake gained no advantage and retreated. Yu Lang spread out a wolf skin, just intending to rest for a while; the little white snake arrived beside him, carrying a purple ganoderma, placed it down, and began to dance, shaking its head and tail.
Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, the peaks, which are covered in snow year-round, are shrouded in mist. In this month, Yu Lang has yet to witness the true height of the snow-capped mountains after the fog has lifted.
Six months later, in the northwestern region of Tibet on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, where the altitude reaches 4,000 meters and is several thousand miles away, a young man dressed in a robe made of Tibetan antelope skin and wearing a wolf fur hat appeared on the vast grassland
Upon closer inspection, the source of light is a small island at the center of the lake; rather than calling it an island, it would be more accurate to describe it as a mound of earth. On this mound, which spans over ten square meters, several plants resembling miniature cedar trees grow to half a person's height, with a blue light weaving through their verdant branches. Straining his eyes, he can vaguely see that the blue light emanates from the eyes of a small creature resembling a green squirrel, which is anxiously darting among the branches, seemingly evading something while also appearing to be hunting. After watching for a while, Yulang finally notices a small white snake coiled within the mound. When the squirrel approaches, the snake swiftly extends its red tongue towards it. The squirrel seems to be very frightened of the snake's red tongue, yet it also appears to want to lure the white snake out. It approaches anxiously, only to leap back in vain. Yulang observes that both animals possess their own unique spirit, and he feels a fondness for them. He wishes to get closer, so he removes his clothes and slips into the water, swimming towards the mound. The warm lake water envelops Yulang, providing a great sense of comfort; at this moment, he feels that the lake is filled with a rare spiritual energy, which is highly beneficial for his internal injuries and cultivation. He is no longer surprised by the presence of such large snow lotuses here; in a place brimming with spiritual energy, even the most ordinary things can become extraordinary.
A yellow object the size of a thumb was picked up by Yu Lang. It appeared to be a sealed copper tube, with a base at the bottom and a round top that seemed to be inlaid. Yu Lang stared at this object in curiosity, brought it to his mouth and bit it; it was indeed made of copper. He looked at the little squirrel with puzzlement: What does this mean? What is this thing for? Do you want me to help? It's not that simple. He tossed the copper tube aside and continued to enjoy his hot spring bath. He tossed the copper tube aside and continued to enjoy his hot spring bath.
While cursing all the deities he knew during the Yu Lang incantation, a faint glimmer beneath the snowy cliff caught his attention
Dressed in a robe made of antelope skin sewn with wolf sinew, carrying a pouch of roasted fish fillets and a leg of lamb, Yu Lang set off towards the snow-capped mountains, determined to find a way to leave this place
A blue light point flickered in a glacier over a thousand meters ahead of him; gradually, the frequency of the flickering light point increased, and several red lights appeared among them
When not on the island, the small animals would often bring some items to Yu Lang, though not as frequently; the little squirrel still brought some strange bits of trash, hoping Yu Lang would not take them back, while the little white snake continued to deliver herbs, which Yu Lang accepted without hesitation. Another ten days passed, and Yu Lang's box was nearly full again. When he pressed the little squirrel for the box, it brought a pile of various medicinal gourds. This time, Yu Lang understood that the little squirrel had not robbed the box shop; it had robbed an entire pharmacy. Another ten days passed, and Yu Lang's box was nearly full again. When he pressed the little squirrel for the box, it brought a pile of various medicinal gourds. This time, Yu Lang understood that the little squirrel had not robbed the box shop; it had robbed an entire pharmacy. These items were clearly containers for herbs and elixirs, and Yu Lang was very eager to take a look, but the little squirrel was adamant about not letting Yu Lang follow it, leaving Yu Lang with no choice but to give up.
Originally, he intended to return near the fortress, but the situation was not as he had imagined. While the army was conducting searches to the east, they did not relax their search around the fortress; there was an underground river beneath the poplar forest where he had secluded himself, and once he reached there, he could stop to tend to his wounds. However, sensing activity on the surface, he dared not linger and fled westward. The west, as well as the north and south, were all under surveillance, and he could not escape on the surface; he could only move slowly underground like a mole. Yet, Cao Yulang also overestimated the prowess of his pursuers. The moment he was injured, he assumed that a skilled individual had detected his traces of escape both on the surface and underground, so he forced himself to keep changing his position despite his injuries. Later, he discovered that after moving five meters underground, he was no longer under attack, so he maintained that depth. Although his movement was slower, it was much safer.
Another night has fallen. The little squirrel suddenly ceased its attack on the little white snake upon seeing Cao Yulang appear in the lake; it twisted its body and vanished into the water. After a while, it reappeared on the other side of the lake, flickered a few times, and then disappeared just like that
On the second day, when night fell, Yu Lang drove away the little white snake, and the little squirrel occupied the island in the middle of the lake. When the unwilling little white snake attempted to fight back, Yu Lang shot it to the shore with a water arrow. After a few days, a tacit understanding finally formed between them: they would take turns each day, leaving automatically when it was time. Now Yu Lang understood that what they were competing for was indeed the island in the middle of the lake
Joking with the picture book and engaging in a battle of wits with the battle-hardened Cao Yulang, the little squirrel is still somewhat inexperienced. Just by looking at the triangular head of that little white snake and the two red fangs visible in its opening and closing mouth, one can tell it is highly venomous; the little squirrel's continuously bared teeth also emit a blue light. Considering the level of caution the white snake shows towards it, it is certainly not a harmless creature. There is no need for oneself to suffer from severe poisoning after sustaining heavy injuries; in such a case, even if one were the Supreme Lord Laozi, it would be the end.
The little white snake floated over again, this time holding a sprig of orchid in its mouth, with a red fruit swaying among the emerald green leaves; not recognizing this item, Yu Lang still placed it into the yellow jade box. Before long, the area around Yu Lang was filled with various flowers and spiritual herbs. Cao Yu Lang, who knew nothing about herbs, began to feel overwhelmed: it seemed that all these were good items, but the yellow jade box was already full. Hmm, I should ask the little squirrel to bring another box.
Without any melancholy, the little squirrel immediately got busy, soon dragging over a pile of items; there were jade pieces, amber, blue, green, and yellow gemstones, prayer beads, silver candle holders, spoons, forks, rings, thumb rings, longevity locks, and even a snuff box, the source of which was unknown. At this moment, Yulang noticed that the little squirrel's "treasures" were all smooth or shiny objects, while the little white snake was actually gathering rare herbs for itself
The struggle between the little squirrel and the little white snake has not ceased for a moment; it seems that neither of them needs to eat. Perhaps they are healing themselves while they eat. However, every time Yulang looks at the small island in the lake, they are attacking each other, which is quite strange
Three days have passed, and Yu Lang dares to eat only two small fish each day. After that, he uses his internal energy to encase himself in ice. Once he has gathered enough ice, he immediately stops, allowing the cold air to merge with the warm currents of the fish to heal his internal injuries. Over the past few days, his internal injuries have improved somewhat, but due to the severity of the wounds, the recovery is very slow. Surprisingly, the true energy within him has significantly strengthened; it is indeed a wonderful thing
While passing by, Yu Lang caught a small fish and comfortably found a not-too-deep spot on the shore to sit down; soaking in the warm lake water, he began to observe the small fish in his hand. Strangely, the fish here had a blue body and red eyes. After watching for a while, Yu Lang finally swallowed the unfortunate little fish, which was about the size of a finger, whole. Although the taste was average, once it entered his stomach, a warm current spread from his lower abdomen throughout his body. Yu Lang felt so comfortable that he wanted to shout a few times, as there were signs that the stagnation within him was beginning to dissolve. Strangely, the fish here had a blue body and red eyes. Yu Lang felt so comfortable that he wanted to shout a few times, as there were signs that the stagnation within him was beginning to dissolve.
He has thought it through; he can come here anytime. However, it is quite inconvenient to run around with a bunch of medicine boxes and gourd vials. So, he dug a stone cave by the lake. Apart from the yellow jade box containing the ganoderma and orchids, as well as a few gemstones, he placed everything else inside and covered it with a large stone to secure it.
Seeing that Yu Lang was not moving, the little squirrel tirelessly transported its treasures. Yu Lang looked at the pile of garbage, feeling both angry and amused, and somewhat pitying the creature. He took the yellow jade box and gestured a few times, then pushed the heap of garbage far away. The next time, the little squirrel indeed brought over a redwood box and a silver box; before long, it had dragged over more than ten boxes made of various materials, including ivory, bone, white jade, black jade, red jade, gold, silver, copper, iron, and wood. Could it be that it had moved an entire treasure trove? Yu Lang wondered, wanting to follow it to its hiding place, but the little squirrel moved too quickly for him to keep up. Yu Lang noticed that these boxes were all exquisitely crafted, unlike anything that should be found here; especially the few jade boxes, which, upon closer inspection, were covered in strange patterns that resembled maps.
As before, the moment he began to circulate his energy, he felt the sand and stones pressing in from all sides; cursing a few words, Yu Lang stopped his practice, maintaining the true energy within his body in a weak operational state, slowly alleviating the stagnation in his internal organs. After feeling somewhat better, he fled westward in the direction of the flowing river, as the soil underwater was relatively loose and the food was abundant.
After escaping from the nuclear test base, Cao Yulang was relentlessly pursued by the military as he moved northwest. The power of those airborne missiles was not particularly great; otherwise, Yulang would likely have been killed on the spot. Even so, his internal organs suffered severe shock, his skin was severely burned, and his right ear was deafened due to being directly opposite the blast point. He lurked like a wolf five meters underground, slowly advancing westward into the depths of the desert
In Cao Yulang's limited experience, he had never encountered such strange occurrences, such clever animals, such peculiar places, or such unusual behaviors. He scratched his head and thought, isn't this just a hot spring? Although it is full of spiritual energy, there is nothing particularly special about it; there is a similar place on Yuling Mountain, where he grew up, and his master often took him there to practice. His master said: every mountain has a place that gathers spiritual energy, because mountains are inherently locations that converge the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. The higher one ascends in cultivation, the less significant the effects of these mystical places become; what truly matters is one's own effort and good techniques. If Yulang were not here to heal, he would not have chosen this place, after all, with his current power and level, he could gather sufficient spiritual energy anywhere, provided he could successfully circulate his energy for cultivation. The effects of spiritual herbs are similar; they are only useful during the initial foundation-building stage and for healing. At Yulang's current stage, no spiritual herb in this world is of much use, and his injuries can only be resolved little by little by himself.
As the sun rose, Yulang had already prepared the prey. The wolf and antelope skins were spread out on the Woniu Stone to dry. Next to a pile of firewood, Yulang was happily roasting an antelope, humming a cheerful tune in satisfaction; the happiest day after returning had begun, and everything seemed so wonderful
He is Cao Yulang. After six months, his hair has grown out, and his fair face has been marked with a highland red from the strong ultraviolet rays of the plateau. His lips and the beard on his cheeks have also grown. From his appearance, he has become a standard Tibetan youth. Over the past six months, he has carefully transformed his peculiar Tibetan into the authentic accent of the northern Tibetan region; Cao Yulang has given himself the most common Tibetan name: Losang
A flash of yellow light struck the white snake on the head, causing it to writhe in pain and swiftly dive into the lake; a white ribbon sliced through the water towards Yu Lang, who scooped up a handful of lake water and shot a water arrow directly at the white ribbon, which vanished upon impact; after a while, the little white snake reappeared beside a stone at the edge of the lake, curling its body.
Feeling that his injuries had greatly improved, Yu Lang prepared to leave. He did not dare to stay in one place for too long. He was unsure whether those people would come looking for him here, so it was better to be cautious; being careful was never a mistake.
Cao Yulang was puzzled as a green squirrel swiftly slid down the ice wall beside him. Its speed was no less than that of Yulang, and it was holding something in its mouth. The little squirrel placed the item it was carrying next to Yulang's hand, then quickly jumped aside and stared directly at him
Years later, when he learned that he had been discovered by a satellite, he felt an immense sense of regret
Cao Yulang washed away the mud shell from his body in a small stream, instantly feeling much lighter; he silently checked his physical condition: the internal injuries had neither improved nor worsened, but the most severely injured area, his right abdomen, still ached faintly; the burns had healed, revealing a layer of new flesh that made him feel somewhat embarrassed due to its whiteness and tenderness; the hearing in his right ear had recovered somewhat, allowing him to barely hear some sounds when he was not using his internal energy. He had lost all the items he had collected in the fortress, and to facilitate movement underground, he was once again completely naked. He had lost all the items he had collected in the fortress, and to facilitate movement underground, he was once again completely naked.
But are these two animals really cultivating? Yulang cannot believe it; could it be just to compete for a piece of territory? Upon closer inspection, Huxin Island is indeed a good place for nesting.
Yulang cautiously stopped five meters from the center of the lake island, as he did not want to be injured by the two animals. Given their speed, he could barely evade one but would certainly be unable to avoid the other. The little squirrel ceased its attack when Yulang arrived and hid to the side, observing the situation; its two blue eyes alternated between looking at Yulang and the little white snake. It seemed as if it had just arrived, while Yulang and the little white snake had been fighting for a long time. When the crane and clam fight, it is the fisherman who benefits; this little creature is quite clever.
Sliding down the steep ice wall, I was surprised to find soil and rocks below. A dozen rare snow lotuses, each the size of a basin, grew among the rocks beneath the ice wall, while some unknown plants thrived around the small lake. Wisps of warm air rose from the lake's surface, meeting the cold air above at a low altitude, condensing into water vapor that enveloped the surroundings, leaving the plants in the canyon damp.
Not daring to go up just like that, Cao Yulang found a river and opened a cave beneath it, deciding to take the risk to heal his wounds. He needed to restore some of his strength first in order to deal with the pursuers on the surface
Recalling his own experiences, Cao Yulang cursed every so-called immortal from ancient times to the present: the Jade Emperor, the Eight Immortals, the Supreme Old Lord, the Generals of the Nine Heavens, God Jesus, the Great Buddha, all a bunch of frauds! Great frauds! The kind that deceives people to death without any accountability. For thousands of years, how many people have been deceived by the myth of the immortal realm and the sacred paradise? Those who have been deceived suffer in silence, while the deceivers brazenly lie with their eyes wide open. What is even more detestable is that those who have been tricked easily blend into the ranks of the deceivers and become even more enthusiastic in their deception, employing even more elaborate tricks than the original fraudsters; immortals are just such a group of people. What is even more detestable is that those who have been tricked easily blend into the ranks of the deceivers and become even more enthusiastic in their deception, employing even more elaborate tricks than the original fraudsters; immortals are just such a group of people. Cultivation, practice, has led to such an outcome. Yulang cursed this ancient scam in his heart, vowing that one day he would return and completely destroy everything "there".
The deeper one ventures into the snow-capped mountains, the thicker the snow becomes, gradually surrounding Yu Lang with a glacier. He paid little attention to the drop in temperature and the thinning oxygen, but the injuries within him had not shown significant improvement due to the prolonged delay, and Yu Lang was quite worried that healing would become a long-term task. Although it did not affect general movement, the inability to use his internal energy made him feel quite awkward. With only thirty percent of his power restored, he was unconcerned as long as he was not subjected to missile attacks like the one two months ago.
The green little squirrel quickly leaped onto the island in the middle of the lake, excitedly jumping a few times before disappearing among the miniature pine trees
I no longer dare to eat recklessly here, as Yulang honestly squats in the lake, allowing the warm mist of the water to envelop him while watching the little squirrel and the small white snake in a struggle. They are certainly fighting over something, though he has yet to discern what it is; Yulang is filled with curiosity about the unknown, after all, he is still a child of not yet twenty years old
Yulang slightly pursed his lips, relaxing his somewhat tense nerves. When he first attacked with the copper tube, the little white snake only used two parts of its strength, thinking: just driving the little white snake away would suffice; however, unaware of the depth of the situation, it was immediately provoked and launched an attack on Yulang. Yulang did not wish to let this highly venomous creature approach him, so he used seventy percent of his strength the second time, which quickly calmed the little white snake down. The strong are the rulers; animals understand and accept this unchanging natural law better than humans.
Yulang only rests for four hours each day, spending the remaining time running away. He eats whatever he encounters on the road, be it grass roots or ant nests, and he even finds several large rat holes. After more than ten days, a problem arises: rocks begin to appear at the depth he is moving, although they are still sparse, these scattered rocks indicate that he has reached the edge of the desert—the Gobi Desert—and he will be forced to surface. Moving beneath the sand is quite easy, but it becomes very difficult under the soil, let alone under the rocks. Moving beneath the sand is quite easy, but it becomes very difficult under the soil, let alone under the rocks.
A month has passed, and based on a daily exercise of fifty kilometers, he has already run over one thousand five hundred kilometers. Cao Yulang finally emerged from the ground late one night
